The 36th Tokyo Motorcycle Show

I went to the Tokyo Motorcycle Show last Saturday. I got there just after mid day and there were all ready a lot of people visiting the event.

There hasn’t been an official statement, however, the number of people visiting the Tokyo Motorcycle Show had increased since last year. We still hear that economy hasn’t recovered but the passion of motorcyclists is remaining high.

There were many different kinds of exhibits and it was easy to see how everyone was enjoying them.

I myself enjoyed as one of those motorcyclists. For my job, it was good to see other manufacturers work and how they display their products.

--------------------

Auto Cycle Yoshino had displayed “MORIWAKI spec ZEPHYR1100” at Custom People booth. There was a custom bike gallery there. Thank you very much.

We are preparing the Point cover and Generator cover which the Yoshino’s ZEPHYR had, to release in April. We are also developing a Back Step Kit for the model.

We will update those products information at our website. Please keep yourself informed.

-------------

There will be 7 MD250s competing in the first round of All Japan Championship in Tsukuba on April 5th.

The first Suzuka 8hrs Endurance in 1978

090326

A shot from the 1st Suzuka 8hrs… 22yr-old, Graeme Crosby.

His great international career followed after this race.

--------

Crosby came to Japan about a month before the big race along with his girlfriend, stayed at MORIWAKI’s guest room. He sometime helped MORIWAKI working in the factory or went touring with his girlfriend… lifting the front end up with his girl on back of his motorcycle. It was no surprise to us…

Scorpaenopsis cirrhosa (Thunberg)

Mr. Moriwaki went fishing last Saturday and got this…Onikasago, or Scorpaenopsis cirrhosa, 51cm massive one. There were many others too.

The big fat belly is eggs and because of pressure differences from the depth.

It is no unusual for Mr. Moriwaki to get such big game.

They were taken to Sushi restaurant and prepared later for our treat...

Sometime I wonder what is real his profession...

Would you like to have MORIWAKI logo on your stuff?

“RIDE” Motormagazine

“Moriwaki Circuit-no-Kiseki” or “Moriwaki’s footsteps on race circuit” was published by SANKAIDO PUBLISHING on July 20, 1986.

Now more than 2 decades later, the Motormagazine is introducing the contents of Moriwaki Circuit-no-Kiseki in one of their magazines, “RIDE” form #20 issue. The #22 issue was just issued the other day and the story will be completed in #23.

“Moriwaki Circuit-no-Kiseki” starts with a story from the very first Suzuka 8hrs Endurance road race held in July 1978. Mamoru Moriwaki’s childhood, working at Yoshimura, meeting with Graeme Crosby and Wayne Gardner and birth of MORIWAKI Monster… All the Moriwaki history is there.

We like all MORIWAKI fans, new or long time, to read the story…

2009 Tsukuba Road Race Championship, round1

The first round of Tsukuba Championship was held on March 14-15 and there were 4 MD250s entered the GP-Mono class. 2 of them were Tsubokawa-san and Yamada-san who came to pick their bikes up about a week ago.

We got some photos from Yamada-san from the weekend.

Despite the time he had for race preparation, he got 7th in the grid.

Unfortunately he crashed out at lap 9 when he was chasing up podium position.

The guy in blue is Yoshiharu Okada, who’s participating in the All Japan Championship with MD250S. He was supporting Yamada-san as his mechanic.

Have your exhaust maintenance by manufacturer?

Have you experienced unfortunate crash and ended up having a big dent on your muffler or a broken bracket? MORIWAKI exhaust systems are repairable (excluding certain models). Some damages may require parts replacement but the most of dents or bends can be repaired with the original parts.

In case your exhaust system needs repair work or maintenance, just feel free to contact us. MORIWAKI exhaust maintenance service is for safety as well as maintenance of original performance.

-----------------

Maintenance service steps

Call MORIWAKI and give us general information of the damage, so we can quickly quote the maintenance work which is needed.

When the quick quote is accepted and actual order is placed, we ask to send the exhaust system to MORIWAKI.

We will ask to remove attached parts such as muffler bands and brackets before the exhaust system is sent.

We make final quote after we receive the parts. Then, confirm the estimated repair cost and contents of work with the customer before we proceed with the work.

The repair/maintenance work will require 2 weeks lead time, however, it depends on the level of each damage.

When we finish the repair/maintenance work, we notify the customer and return the parts to the customer.

We can accept “cash on delivery”, “bank transfer” or “credit card for the payment.

-----------------

Please feel free to call MORIWAKI for information.

Hand Made pipes / Z Monster Racing, part2

We talked about “sand filling” yesterday.

Today… “bending”

-------------------------

The bending, of course, is done manually by craftsman. They bend the pipes one by one.

Clamp one end of the pipe and heat it with a burner. See the picture.

Then, start bending… we cannot show much with the picture but I hope you get a good idea.

Heat, bending force and bending angle… all the technique is relevant for this process.

And the pipe becomes a work of art.

0903101_3 0903102_3

After the bending, then the pipes are emptied and cut into specific length.

Then the next process is welding to attach mouth-pieces.

-------------------------

The hand made exhaust pipe requires a lot of work. But we cannot miss any of those processes to make such an attractive product.

We proudly preset this long-selling Z Monster Racing.

Hand Made pipes / Z Monster Racing

Hi. How’s everything?

Today, we like to show you how we make “Hand Made” pipes.

--------------------------------------------

We have “Machine bend exhaust” and “Manually bend exhaust” in our products.

Difference is, of course, one is bent by a machine and the other is by hands.

We use a pipe bender for machine bend pipes and this is good for mass production.

We can produce a number of high-precision exhaust pipes in relatively a short amount of time.

Whereas the hand made pipes are manually bent by craftsman, one by one. Obviously it takes time and maybe not suitable for mass production, however, there is something that the only “hand made” can create and that particular charm makes exhaust pipes so beautiful.

But, as I said, hand made pipes production requires a lot of time and work.

First, we fill the pipes with sand and plug them. The sand keeps pipes from deforming.

It sounds like a simple work but it influences the bending process. We use different sand for different pipe materials.

0903092_2 0903093_3

…filling, plugging, filling, plugging… Next will be “bending”.

------------------

To be continued.

MORIWAKI_BLOG started!

Hi there, everyone. MORIWAKI_BLOG is just about to start.

We like to present various topics here in the blog; things happening at MORIWAKI, MD250 race info, tip from the past and future MORIWAKI actions on a daily basis.

--------------------------------------

In the very first blog, we like to show you a very first photo...

MORIWAKI ENGINEERING was established in 1973 at Suzuka, Japan. There wasn’t much to do so they were killing their time by playing catch… a lot of space to play catch in Suzuka back in those days. Then one day, Mr. Yoshiharu Suzuki, a manager of one of Honda’s internal race teams came to MORIWAKI and asked to do cylinder head porting for their CB125S race bike. The history of MROIWAKI ENGINEERING had begun.

See the little white building on the right. That is a chassis dynamo facility. MORIWAKI was the only race bike constructor who equipped with that except major manufacturers.

We will have more stories from early days of MORIWAKI…090305_5_4
