Zephyr is getting ready

One February day at shop floor…

The billet parts had got alumite finish. Standard parts are replaced with MORIWAKI parts. Guys are working quickly and the Zephyr changes its appearance, more masculine and blighter.

I could feel the thoughts of the MORIWAKI members just looking at them working on the bike. Steering stem, swingarm and foot controls… all were immaculately finished and the beauty brought me a shiver. The performance exceeds standard. It’s only possible with the experience we have in our every day production activity, with the knowledge we gain from our challenge to the world. MORIWAKI’s engineering technology and ideas are given to those MORIWAKI original parts.

Kawasaki Z1(ZⅡ) / FX750 MORIWAKI One-piece is back!

We had successful sales of the limited edition of Kawasaki Z400FX and Z400GP One-piece exhaust systems. Thank you very much. All MORIWAKI staff members are grateful to know that our effort to reproduce real old-time system was well accepted by many fans and customers.

MORIWAKI revival series part2: Kawasaki Z1 (Z) and FX750 One-piece

Dsc_0015pt

※The exhaust in the photo is prototype.

So, we started next revival project right away. This time is Z1 (Z/ FX750) system. Right now, we are testing the prototype. Just like Z400FX system, it is hand-bent with welding method from ‘70s. Having experience with Z400FX, development of this exhaust was rather smooth, but the “silencer” was the difficult part. If I was right, there were 2 different types of silencer with original Z1 One-piece back then. We made number of different silencers in order to reproduce exact exhaust sound. Those engineers who knew the sound of original one tuned their ears and looked for the single sound. Why so important? It’s because the sound of MORIWAKI Z was so unique.

Finally we got this prototype and installed it on MORIWAKI Z. Started the engine, listened the idle sound, then snapping the throttle… I closed my eyes and the exhaust sound just brought me back to my early days of MORIWAKI. It was like traveling back in time, nostalgia…

My role was to reproduce the sound and I was happy to be able to succeed it. Then I though, it wouldn’t be so hard to reproduce 30 some years old exhaust system with current up-to-date technology. But that is not what Kawasaki Z owners want. They want to have exact revival of the original one they knew from the time. I was sure about that when I heard the sound of our prototype, reproducing the sound that I long forgotten.
