We, MORIWAKI ENGINEERING had been preparing and wishing to enter the MotoGP Japan Grand Prix Moto2 class which is scheduled April 2010 at Twin Ring Motegi. Last week, the March 11, we were informed by Motorcycle Federation of Japan that the wildcard seats for the event were given to teams who are participating All Japan Championship J-GP2 class and MORIWAKI’s request to enter the race was declined.
“Wildcard” entry is provided to motorcycle sports organizations in each Grand Prix host country, and number of this additional entry depends on the class. For Moto2 class in Japan Grand Prix this year, there are 2 seats available and TSR, Burning Blood and MORIWAKI applied for the 2. Teshima from TSR team was the champion of All Japan Championship last year so he was accepted to take one of the 2 seats (1 seat from MFJ and the other from FIM) given by MFJ as MFJ had announced that their seat will be given to a rider or team who was in the top ranking in ST600 class in 2009.
Remaining FIM seat shall be discussed between MFJ and FIM, however, MFJ basically has more influence in decision making.
So MFJ made decision for the FIM seat last week.
In the last 2years, we have continued our activity to develop MD600 in order to popularize motorcycle sports and lead such activities in Japan.
We have only 30 some people working in our company but we believed that showing such small company challenging the world would give hope to motorsports fans and people in the industry in Japan. That believe was our strong motive to our challenge.
MORIWAKI isn’t big company. Therefore, there is a limit. There is only so much we can do. We, of course, considered entering the all Japan Championship but it was just beyond our capacity, and we thought we should focus on machine development to contribute our work to Japanese motorsports through world grand prix races.
We consider ourselves as a race team as well as a machine constructer. So, the wildcard entry to this year’s Japan Grand Prix was really special for us.
It was “MORIWAKI DREAM”, nothing else.
From the very beginning, all our members helped each other, designing, manufacturing and testing… proceeded the development activity as a team.
We understand the point of their decision but we are really sorry. However, we accept the decision sincerely, and hope for another opportunity.
We are really sorry to our fans who have been supporting our entry to Motegi. We are deeply regretted to inform this current status.
We put a copy of our letter to MFJ which explains our wishes, and also the answer from MFJ.
We thought this will explain our fans how MORIWAKI is trying to pass its wishes to motorsports industry in Japan.
We are really, really sorry to disappoint you.
But we will not give up until the last moment and hope to showcase valiant MORIWAKI in front of our fans.
Request letter to MFJ
