Press release from Indianapolis Motor Speedway; USGPRU race will be on at Indy GP

Talented young riders from the United States and Canada will compete in a United States Grand Prix Racers Union (USGPRU) event during the Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Aug. 27-29 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

USGPRU is the premier feeder series in North America for young riders aspiring to race professionally.

Riders aged 12 to 16 will race at Indianapolis in a special youth class, riding Moriwaki MD250H machines featuring Honda engines. Two rounds of the 13-race 2010 USGPRU schedule will be contested at Indianapolis , one each for East Coast Region and West Coast Region riders.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have been selected to join the MotoGP community at Indianapolis for this year's event," said USGPRU Chief Steward Stewart Aitken-Cade. "It's a tremendous opportunity for our young racers to get out there on the world stage and give everyone a glimpse at what great young talent America has coming up through the ranks.

"We are equally pleased to be able to showcase these racers aboard the Moriwaki MD250H powered by Honda. Over the past two years, this bike has been a solid platform that has reliably provided some of the closest and most exciting races every weekend they race. Hopefully the MotoGP fans will enjoy the show the USGPRU brings to Indy."

The addition of USGPRU races adds even more excitement to the on-track schedule for fans at the Red Bull Indianapolis GP. USGPRU joins the three World Championship classes - MotoGP, Moto2 and 125cc - in action at IMS.

Moriwaki MD250H machinery for USGPRU riders incorporates a single-cylinder, four-stroke engine built by Honda and sourced from Honda's CRF250X motorcycle. The USGPRU's MD250H class provides an excellent means for young racers to gain first-hand exposure to grand prix-style racing.

"American Honda's support of this class through purpose-built machinery and excellent contingency rewards - $180,000 on the season - represent direct efforts to support and expand road racing at the grassroots level," said Keith Dowdle, assistant manager, Honda Rider's Club of America. "The addition of this new round of MD250H racing to the USGPRU schedule means that these young racers will now have the opportunity to compete at one of the most storied tracks in the United States during one of the most prestigious motorcycle racing events in the nation, before a huge crowd - quite an adventure for these young competitors! All of which makes the 2010 Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix an even more compelling race date than ever before."

MotoGP rd.6 TIM TT Assen Dutch Grand Prix Moto2 class / Toni Elias 2nd, Thomas Luthi 3rd. MORIWAKI is top of the Constructor Championship!!!

Since the introduction of Moto2, the class has shown competitive battles.  TT Assen was no exception.  15 riders in a split of a second, it was already predicting another great race after the qualifying practice ended.

3 MD600 riders were in the top 15; Thomas Luthi was in 5th, followed by Toni Elias in 6th and Lukas Pesek in 11th.

The mercury went up to 20C and the track temperature rose to 33C with a help of fine Dutch weather.  The race started in the favored condition.  Great start for MD600 riders, Elias, Luthi and Nieto went into turn 1 in 3rd, 4th and 5th.  At lap2, Elias moved to the 2nd position and battled the position while leaving the 4th and the rest of riders behind.

Later the race, Luthi gradually gaining his position and joined the 3rd-position battle.  At last 5lap, Luthi marked 1’39”414 re-writing the record lap and getting a chance to take 3rd position.  At the last 2laps, finally Tom Luthi became 3rd.  Toni Elias was just in front of Luthi and he had the position since lap14.  The 2 MD600 riders kept their positions all the way to the finish line, Elias 2nd and Luthi 3rd.

Vladimir Ivanov was the only remaining one to complete the race, with 21st position.  Fonsi Nieto, Lukas Pesek and Xavier Simon did not finish the race. Nieto retired at lap6.  Pesek was out at 8laps to go, and Simon was the last one to crashed, just 1 lap short to complete the race.

---

Toni Elias, 2nd: “It was a good through the week, stayed in top group all the time.  I started the race good but the gap with Iannone was already growing when I was battling to get 2nd position and I could not reach him.  The second in podium was good for the championship so I’m very happy with the result.  I would like to win again at next round.”

---

Thomas Luthi, 3rd: “The start of the race was not easy. I had a good start but could not switch into the gear and lost the connection a little bit because of that. Then Iannon e was already building up a gap behind him. At the end I was able to fight for the podium, but the second place was impossible to reach. I am very happy with my third place though."

---

Now, MORIWAKI is back on the top of Constructor Championship.  Toni Elias kept his championship lead and Thomas Luthi is now just 2 points behind the runner up.

Official race report will be issued later.

USGPRU to Race Moriwaki MD250Hs During 2010 Indy USGP

Torrance, CA: American Honda announces today that during the 2010 Red Bull Indianapolis GP, August 27 to 29, a special youth class has been added for racers riding the Moriwaki MD250H powered by Honda. This event, part of the United States Grand Prix Racers Union (USGPRU) race schedule, will allow up-and-coming road racers aged 12-16 to compete at the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This Indy addition will feature a double-header race format with two points-paying races added to the 2010 USGPRU schedule.

In a parallel to the World Grand Prix Moto2 class, which uses a spec-built Honda engine based on the CBR600RR powerplant, the Moriwaki MD250H incorporates a Honda-built single-cylinder four-stroke engine sourced from the CRF250X. The USGPRU¹s MD250H class provides an excellent means for young racers to gain first-hand exposure to grand prix-style racing.

“American Honda’s support of this class through purpose-built machinery and excellent contingency rewards—$180,000 on the season—represents direct efforts to support and expand road racing at the grass-roots level,” said Keith Dowdle, Assistant Manager, HRCA. “The addition of this new round of MD250H racing to the USGPRU schedule means that these young racers will now have the opportunity to compete at one of the most storied tracks in the United States, during one of the most prestigious motorcycle racing events in the nation and before a huge crowd—quite an adventure for these young competitors! American Honda Announces Participation in the 2010 Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix

American Honda had announced their participation in 2010 Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix.  The Moto2 class will definitely be more interesting with the American wildcard entry.  Here is the press release from American Honda

------------------------------------

Torrance, CA: American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announces today our participation in the 2010 Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, August 27 to 29. For this event, American Honda was awarded a wild card entry for the Moto2 class. To mount this one-race endeavor, American Honda has joined forces in a combined effort with Moriwaki Engineering.

“American Honda views the Indy GP as an opportunity to support Moto2 in the U.S.,” said Ray Blank, Senior Vice President, American Honda Powersports Division. “We are very excited to be road racing again in America. This great new production-based world championship format is based on the Honda CBR600RR engine platform, so it’s a natural for our participation.”

The team will field a Honda-powered Moriwaki MD600. Moriwaki has been at the forefront of professional racing for 34 years, specializing in Honda-related products. Best known for its Honda V5-powered MD211VF MotoGP bike, which campaigned in 2004, the firm—in conjunction with American Honda—more recently released the MD250H, a 250cc four-stroke single-cylinder lightweight racer to support youth road racing in America. In Moto2, Moriwaki has already proven its engineering prowess, winning two Moto2 rounds with its MD600 in the hands of Gresini Racing’s Toni Elias. As a result, Elias leads the Moto2 rider standings and Moriwaki leads the constructor championship standings.

American Honda now announces that the team will be led by Kevin Schwantz.

Schwantz, the 1993 500cc Grand Prix World Champion, has a wealth of racing knowledge and currently runs the Schwantz School, where riders can learn from the best aboard Honda CBR600RR machines. “It’s an honor for me to be chosen as team manager,” said Schwantz. “We’ve been using CBR600RRs for some time now at our schools, and I’ve ridden a Moto2 bike and it’s very good.  I watched the first three Moto2 races and I expect the racing to be just as good at Indy.”

Led by Schwantz, the team will field a Honda-powered Moriwaki MD600 ridden by wild card entry Roger Lee Hayden.

Roger Lee Hayden has a solid history with American Honda, and a string of 12 national road race victories on 600cc machines en route to a Supersport championship. Along with his siblings Nicky and Tommy, the Hayden brothers are American racing royalty, and the Indy GP will give American fans another opportunity to see Roger racing on American soil.  At 27, Hayden also qualifies to race as a wild card entry: Moto2 rules require all wild card riders to be 28 years old or younger.

“This is a great opportunity for me to race in front of my home crowd at a MotoGP event,” said Roger, who is currently competing in the World Superbike Championship. “The Moto2 class is really competitive and I’m looking forward to jumping in the middle of it.”

The team will be staffed by Erion Racing technicians led by Kevin Erion. Erion Racing has been American Honda’s premier support team for more than 15 years, winning 16 national championships—many of them with Honda’s CBR600 in the process. “We’re excited to partner with American Honda again and participate in our first World-Championship event,” said Kevin Erion.

The American Honda Indy GP Moto2 team will also benefit the Ride for Kids® (RFK) program and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® (PBTF) through special fund-raising activities. At Indy, for example, Schwantz will lead the Lap of Champions, where 300 participants will join him in a lap around the track in a special fund-raiser that benefits the PBTF by raising funds to promote childhood brain tumor research.

Fujishima entered the 2010 “Road to 8hours” Suzuka 300km Endurance Road Race from Honda EG Racing & Koyokai Dream Racing team.  Fujishima marked 2’15”007 at the second session of qualifying practice and that put the team on 26th place on the grid.

Clouds covered the sky on Sunday morning and rain started falling before the race started, and wind was picking up.  The condition was getting worse.  The rain got heavier just before the race and some team decided to change their slick to rain after the warm up lap, which caused 20min delay on schedule.

Fujishima was the second rider of the team, took over the machine around the half way and tried to control unfamiliar 1000cc machine in very difficult condition.  However, he managed to improve their position from 39 to 30 and completed the race.

--

The next race and the last event of the weekend was Suzuka/Kinki regional championship rd.3, Suzuka ST600 100km Road Race.  Miyajima from MORIWAKI Club challenged the event.

His qualifying lap time was 2’19”936 from Saturday session and got 4th position start.

He moved up to the second position right after the race started.  Rain got really heavy then, and number of crashes occurred at the Degner curve, followed by another 5 crashes at 130R.  The race was interrupted with the rain and red-flagged at lap2.  The race restarted at 17:00 with 12laps instead of 18 as it was scheduled.  Miyajima was in the 4-way leading pack.  The second position rider crashed at “S” corner on lap3 then Miyajima took off from there.  He had 28.770sec lead from the runner up when he cross the finish line.

---

Moreover, Fujishima will enter the 2010 QTEL FIM World Endurance Championship rd.3 “Coca Cola Zero” Suzuka 8hrs Endurance Road Race from Honda EG Racing & Koyokai Dream Racing team.  He will be the third rider of the team.
