Rd2 Jerez Gresini Race Report

GP de ESPANA - Race - 03/04/2011

PIRRO PLACES NINTH AND TAKAHASHI CRASHES OUT IN WET JEREZ MOTO2 RACE
Team Gresini’s Moto2 riders had an almost exact replica of their race at Qatar in round two at Jerez. A wet contest made conditions precarious, and many riders crashed out before the chequered flag came down. Michele Pirro finished ninth on his first time in the wet with the Moriwaki MD600, but Yuki Takahashi had worse luck and crashed out after losing the rear of his machine.

Michel e Pirro (9th) “This is the first time that I have ridden in these conditions with this bike, and I can say that I am satisfied with the result. In hindsight I could have made some more changes in the warmup and before the start, in order to improve my front end grip, but it is something else that I can take as a lesson learnt. I wanted to finish the race, and doing so means that I am happy”

Yuki Takahashi  (DNF) “I am very unhappy for the team, because they worked a lot this weekend. Unfortunately my rear grip wasn’t perfect, and that meant that I lowsided. I can’t wait to get to Estoril, in order to make amends for a bad day.”

Fausto Gresini “Unfortunately these things happen in racing, and I am sad for the guys and for Yuki. I saw him enter the garage looking very deflated. We definitely have to work hard this month in order to improve the rear grip. Pirro had a good race and continues to grow as a rider, despite not having experienced these conditions before with the bike.”
