2011 MotoGP World Championship Series round13, GP APEROL DI SAN MARINO E RIVIERA DI RIMINI / Race report
2 weekends in a row, the MotoGP is holding the rounds, came to San Marino. It is the home ground of one of MORIWAKI MD600 teams, Gresini Racing.
Both Yuki Takahashi and Michele Pirro of Gresini Racing were keeping good pace since Friday, managing to stay in single position. They kept the momentum and Takahashi timed 1’38.340 at the Qualifying Practice just 2 minutes before the end of the session and got his 4th front-row start of the season, starting the race from 3rd. Pirro stayed in 4th in most of the session but settled in 8th. Ricard Cardus and Mashel Al Naimi from QMMF Racing Team were in 27th and 39th respectively in the QP session.
The race started on Sunday in dry, 27 degree air and 34 degree ground. All machines started and packed into the first turn. Takahashi dropped to 6th at turn2 but chasing up with the leaders. There was a crash behind Takahashi but all MD600s went through okay.
The earlier of the race, a leader left others and 3 were chasing him. Takahashi was 3seconds behind the leader. In the middle of the race, 6 riders formed a battle for top and Takahashi was just behind the group, just 1.9 sec behind at one stage, but eventually he finished in 7th, got 9 points.
Pirro stayed in 11th until lap24, then dropped to 14th in the last 2laps and finished the race, 2 points.
Cardus finished in 21st, and Al Naimi was 30th, all MD600 completed the race.
